Set within a rambling 19th-century stone barn, Sky Loft is an atmospheric retreat with a distinctly artistic spirit. The interiors lean bohemian rather than polished, with vintage pieces, soulful antiques and original details that give the space a lived-in warmth. A cabin bed framed by stained glass, an old gramophone and a long bath all add to the sense of escape, but it is the setting that shapes the stay most. From the balcony, the Cambrian Mountains open out in front of you, and after dark the lack of light pollution makes evenings here feel genuinely special. This is a place for writing, reading, walking and lingering outdoors by the fire, with meadows, hills and hidden valleys beginning just beyond the door.

This western edge of the Brecon Beacons feels wilder and quieter than many better-known parts of the park. Around Cilycwm and Llandovery, the landscape shifts between folded hills, open moorland, wooded valleys and clear-running streams, with a strong sense of space throughout. The Cambrian Mountains bring a more remote, elemental mood, and the dark skies are among the great pleasures of staying here. It is an area that rewards unhurried exploring: long walks, hidden waterfalls, mountain roads with far-reaching views, and small market-town stops that break up a day in the hills.
