Why we love it
What makes Wooldown stand out is the way it pairs North Cornwall’s big skies and sea-edged horizons with a quietly cocooning sense of retreat. These are places designed for two and for slowing down: baths positioned as part of the ritual, views that draw you outward, and a setting that still carries the calm of its long farming history.

About the Property
Wooldown is a family-run collection of adult-only retreats just inland from Bude, spread between converted barns, apartments and corners of a Victorian house with long views over fields to the coast. The mood is peaceful rather than showy, with interiors that lean romantic and restful, and many stays shaped around one signature detail: a sculptural copper or nickel air-spa bath that turns an ordinary evening into the main event. Some have sea views towards Widemouth Bay, others look across rolling countryside, but all feel deliberately private. It’s the kind of place that suits slow mornings, a good walk on the coast, then returning to warmth, quiet and a lingering soak before dinner.
Location
Bude, North Cornwall
Set near Marhamchurch above Bude, Wooldown gives you the best of this stretch of North Cornwall: dramatic coastline, broad skies and a gentler rural backdrop just inland. Bude itself has a relaxed, unfussy feel, with sea pools, sandy beaches and a lived-in town centre rather than a polished resort atmosphere. From here, you can spend days walking cliff paths, slipping into hidden coves and watching weather roll in over the Atlantic, then come back to the softer contours of the countryside. It’s a part of Cornwall that feels open, elemental and easy to settle into.
