Why we love it

Higher Wiscombe offers that elusive balance between coast and countryside: a deeply peaceful valley setting with the Jurassic Coast close enough to shape each day. You wake to open rural views, spend hours on cliff paths or at nearby beaches, then return to somewhere that feels calm, generous and properly looked after. For families and groups especially, it has the ease of a place designed for time together without losing the sense of retreat.

About the Property

Set in 52 acres of East Devon countryside, Higher Wiscombe feels tucked away without ever feeling remote. The atmosphere is unshowy and thoughtful, with a strong sense of space, privacy and comfort that suits everything from multigenerational gatherings to slower, quieter breaks. In warmer months, the heated outdoor pool becomes the natural centre of the day; in cooler weather, the surrounding landscape and cosy interiors draw the focus back indoors. What stays with you is the setting: a sheltered valley of big skies and rural stillness, within easy reach of Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth. It is a place that makes it easy to spend the morning by the sea and the evening back among fields and silence.

Location

Colyton, East Devon

This corner of East Devon has a softer, less hurried character than many better-known coastal stretches. From Colyton, you are close to the Jurassic Coast’s chalk cliffs, pebble beaches and walking paths, as well as the old fishing village feel of Beer and the broad Regency seafront at Sidmouth. Inland, the landscape turns green and folded, with lanes, valleys and a slower agricultural rhythm. It is a rewarding base for walkers, swimmers and anyone drawn to the contrast between dramatic coastline and deeply restful countryside.
