Why we love it
This is the kind of Peak District stay that gets the balance right: a centuries-old village cottage with real local roots, directly beneath Curbar Edge, where days begin on the moors and end in the garden or under the stars in the hot tub. It feels grounded rather than staged, with the quiet assurance of somewhere shaped by people who know the village intimately.

About the Property
Jacks Cottages sits in the heart of Curbar, in a 1770 stone cottage that was once two workers’ homes and later belonged to a local artist named Jack. That sense of history still gives the place its character, but the atmosphere is warm and polished rather than precious. After long walks on Curbar Edge or across the wider Peak District, you come back to a log burner, a deeply private walled garden and a hot tub that makes the most of dark skies and tired legs. It suits guests who want to stay somewhere with a strong sense of place: village-centred, beautifully cared for and close to some of the Peak District’s most rewarding walking country.
Location
Curbar, Peak District
Curbar is one of those Peak District villages that feels both well placed and pleasantly underplayed. Beneath the gritstone drama of Curbar Edge, it opens straight onto some of the National Park’s best walking country, with sweeping moorland, big skies and views that shift beautifully with the weather. Nearby Baslow, Froggatt and Grindleford make this a particularly good corner for slow days out, whether that means long hikes, a pub lunch or a visit to Chatsworth. It is a landscape of heather, dry stone walls and open escarpments, with enough wildness to feel restorative and enough village life to feel easy.
