Why we love it

What makes Boulder Field Cabin memorable is the way it feels embedded in the hillside rather than placed on it. The great sweep of boulders, the open valley beyond and the cabin’s quiet, thoughtful design create a retreat that is both elemental and deeply comfortable. You come here for the sense of seclusion, for long soaks looking out across the Peak District, and for nights spent under a roof of stars.

About the Property

Set high above Birchover on Rocking Stone Farm, Boulder Field Cabin is a romantic retreat shaped by its landscape. The cabin sits among dramatic gritstone boulders, with wide views across the valley and a strong sense of privacy once you arrive. Its handcrafted feel keeps things warm and unfussy, while the glass roof above the bed draws in changing weather and clear night skies. Outside, the experience continues: a wood-fired hot tub perched on rock, an outdoor shower tucked among the stones, and a covered area for slow breakfasts and evenings by the firepit. It suits couples who want to feel close to nature without giving up comfort, and who like their escapes quiet, scenic and a little unusual.

Location

Birchover, Peak District

Birchover sits in one of the Peak District’s most characterful corners, where limestone villages and open moorland give way to tors, wooded dales and far-reaching views. This is a landscape made for walking: ancient tracks, drystone walls and weathered rock formations shape the days, while nearby market towns provide good pubs and an easy sense of local life. The setting feels properly rural but never remote for the sake of it. From the cabin, you can spend a day out on the hills, then return for sunset over the valley and a slower pace entirely.
